Q1 2024 – Wrap up and Q2 Goals

I wanted to get on the normal Quarter schedule, so I am writing this a bit early so that I can share how I did on my Q1 goals as well as what the goals are for Q2. Here is the basic format for the writing:

  • My Ask
  • Something I Have Found Helpful
  • What Have I Been Working On and Thinking About (Q1 Update)
  • What I Am Working on Next (Q2 Goals)

My Ask

In Q1 the best things that happened through my network. So the only ask I have is that you share this to your network. Thank you to everyone who has done so thus far – I truly appreciate it.

Something I Found Helpful

There are a lot of people out there who have been on this journey before, and following them on Twitter or subscribing to their newsletters is a way I use to challenge my own thinking and learn. Here are a few of my favorite people and videos:

  • Jesse Pujji – Founded Ampush for digital marketing and is a huge proponent of bootstrapped businesses. One of the inspirations I had for jumping out on my own.
  • Tim Ferriss podcast episode with Cal Newport on Slow Productivity – I absolutely loved this one on the virtues of working “slow” and doing great, deep work. Something I have been thinking about for a long time and they articulate it well here.
  • James Clear Newsletter – This is the one I take the time to read every week.

Of course there are a lot of other people but these are the three that are sticking out at me the most right now.

What Have I Been Working On and Thinking About (Q1 Update)

In late December I set myself 5 “Big Rocks“:

  • Launch of Social Media (Done)
  • Create a Coding Tool for Coding Keeper Actions (Done)
  • Plan out and Launch the Summer Camp (Done)
  • Contact 20 Clubs (Working Towards)
  • Get 10 people to sign up for something on the site (6/10)

I completed the first three 100% to my goals.

Marketing: I started posting videos on YouTube, Instagram and Twitter. My goal with marketing is to provide value to anyone following me by talking about goalkeeping and other performance related topics. My hypothesis is that if I provide consistent value it will lead to positive organic growth.

Coding Tool: I was able to complete this very quickly using AI coding tools for help. This has reduced the time it takes for me to code a game by about 45 minutes per game.

Summer Camp: This was easy to launch but needed a lot of leg work behind the scenes. Getting insurance and figuring out what things really cost. But the camp is launched!

Contact 20 Clubs: I talked to two clubs. I pivoted this to sending physical booklets to clubs with handwritten notes as I want to make a deeper impression when they see an email from me. I needed to do better here.

10 Sign Ups: We have 6 sign ups for the camp, although nothing for the analytics. I have talked to a few clubs and high schools and made some connections.

What I Am Working on Next (Q2 Rocks)

The Big Rocks next quarter are simple:

  • Fill up the keeper camp (14 spots)
  • Send booklets to 100 clubs with handwritten notes
  • Connect with three new clubs
  • 10 new paying customers
  • Get an online interactive tool running

These are my important and urgent priorities for Q2.

I may end up posting a little more regularly about things, although not sharing to my network. I find that writing can often help me clarify my thinking (the Q2 Rocks changed as I wrote and thought about them), and it is good to do in public.
